Abstract

The peptide toxins present in the venom of the Conus marine snails ('conotoxins') have distinctive properties which make them of particular interest for biotechnological applications at the present time. Although there is a remarkable pharmacological diversity of conotoxins, each peptide toxin is very specifically targeted.1–3 In certain cases, conotoxins are able to discriminate between closely related subtypes of a receptor target.
