Magnetic Properties of Disordered L12-Ni3Al + Fe

  • Chapter
Ordering and Disordering in Alloys

Abstract

Magnetic properties of Ni3Al-Fe alloys disordered by mechanical grinding have been measured both at low and high temperatures. While the equilibrium high temperature disordered state is paramagnetic, our metastable disordered state is ferromagnetic. Magnetic moment and Curie temperatures of the disordered state have been determined for several compositions. They are lower than those of the ordered state and vary strongly with concentration and especially with Fe content The weaker ferromagnetism of the disordered state is attributable to a lower number of Fe-Ni nearest neighbors in the disordered fcc state.
