Metal Ceramic Joining for High Temperature Applications

  • Chapter

Abstract

The joining of metals and ceramics is one of the key questions for making wide use of ceramic materials in engines possible. This paper is focusing on the users questions and demands for metal ceramic joining. The need for application oriented work is stressed. Questions such as service conditions and compatibility, both chemical, thermal and mechanical are dealt with. Joining techniques such as brazing, diffusion bonding, friction welding, riveting and shrink fitting are discussed. The need for development of design and NDE methods is also pointed out.
