Abstract
A chelating polymer resin having iminodiacetic acid (IDA) as the functional group has been examined for the selective separation of Mo(VI) and W(VI). The 1H and 13 C NMR spectroscopies in the homogeneous system suggest the much more favorable complexation of IDA with Mo(VI) than with W(VI). The mechanism has been described as follows on the basis of NMR and the adsorption equilibrium studies:
Mo4 2- + RNH+(CH2CO2 -)2 + H+ ⇋ [RN(CH2CO2)2 -MO3]2- + H2O A selective separation of Mo(VI) over W(VI) has been demonstrated by the IDA resin in a column system.
