Synthesis and Characterisation of Resin Sorbents For Cephalosporin C Recovery

  • Conference paper

Abstract

A number of conventional styrene-divinylbenzene bead type polymeric sorbents have been synthesised. The degree of crosslinking and porogen to monomer ratio has been varied systematically and in some cases more polar functionality introduced. A matrix of novel highly porous polymers have also been synthesised again with varying degrees of crosslinking, porogen to monomer ratio and percentage void volume. The porosity characteristics of the two groups of resins have been determined using mercury porosimetry, N2 sorption and solvent imbibition. The sorption of cephalosporin C by the two groups of resins has been investigated and an attempt madeto correlate these results with their porosity characteristics.
