Abstract
The study was aimed at the assessing the influence of stress state type on the durability of specimens as well as on the specimen deformation at failure under thermal cycling conditions. The experiments were carried out on thin-walled tubular specimens made of austenitic steel. They were subjected to pure tension and pure torsion as well as to complex loading. A constant value of stress intensity was obtain in each case. The influence of stress state type on both specimen life and steady deformation rate intensity has been found. The Monkman — Grant failure criterion was used as a relationship between time to failure and steady deformation rate intensity. The analysis of the results obtained showed that the low share of shear stress component in stress intensity does not change in a significant way the values of constants in that failure criterion.
