Abstract
The regional, noninvasive assessment of myocardial functional integrity with the aim of identifying normal, ischemic and necrotic zones is highly desirable in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). Therefore attempts have been made to determinate the metabolic integrity of the myocardium quantitatively with radioactively labeled metabolic substrates. Since free fatty acids (FFA) are primary substrates of the normally perfused myocardium, it appears likely that radiolabeled FFA are suitable for the study of myocardial FFA metabolism.
