Abstract
On the basis of STD measurements performed in SeptemberOctober 1986 at five meridional sections from 180–140°W to 50–35°N, the analysis of the water structure and isolation, classification and determination of front positions was carried out. The main types of water structure in the regions are subarctic and subtropical ones separated by the subtropic front which belongs to the area near 40°N. Zoning of the water area according to 6 types of water structures was made and the main and 5 intermediate thermohaline fronts were isolated as zones of elevated horizontal gradients.
