Access pipes for sampling through thick ice

Abstract

Access pipes are described which permit water sampling beneath thick ice. The pipes prevent water overflow conditions which are sometimes encountered when sampling arctic lakes. Simple modifications to our design permit broader application to a number of winter sampling conditions.
