Water Jet Assisted Coal Cutting

Jet Cutting Technology

Part of the book series: Fluid Mechanics and Its Applications ((FMIA,volume 13))

Abstract

Tests have been conducted on a linear instrumented cutting rig to explore the use of high pressure water jet assistance to drag tools excavating coal. The primary objective was to investigate the possible reduction of fine coal in the product and thus reduce the high preparation costs associated with treating fines for the market.

Two types of coal have been tested and the influence of cleat, jet pressure and power investigated in relation to tool forces and the size distribution of the coal produced.
