Abstract

§1 The title contains an ironic reference to Aristotle’s own work. It may also refer to the direct syllogism (ha-heqqesh ha-yashar), i.e., a syllogiam in whic the conclusion is drawn directly from the premises, as opposed to the per impossible or apagogic syllogism ha-heqqesh ha-hiluf. for this distinction see Prior Analytics I.23, 41a23–41b5 (cf. Patzig, 1968, p. 149); the Hebrew is cited in Klatzkin, 1968, 1:207–208, Gersonides doed use the phrase heqqesh yashar in the sense of ‘direct syllogism’ e.g., C. Prior Analytics, fol. 243r.
