Soil and Ground Water Quality Indicators

  • Chapter
Environmental Impact Assessment

Part of the book series: Eurocourses ((EUEI,volume 1))

Abstract

Quality standards are used in The Netherlands to evaluate whether soil and ground water have been contaminated and whether this is serious. These standards are based on either total content (soil) or solution concentrations (ground water). We show that neither choice is adequate for assessing the hazard of contamination. Alternatives and the associated complications are mentioned.
