Abstract

As part of the ESO Key Program “Towards a Physical Classification of Galaxies”, Bender et al., NTT images using narrow-band and broad-band filters are being obtained. The exceptional seeing (0.7–1.0 arcsec) has resulted in the detection of several new dust-lanes, for the most part in galaxies known to be active. Where radio position angle information is available, in one case the radio jet is exactly orthogonal to the nuclear dust (NGC 5090) but in another, (NGC 3557) it lies at about 40deg to the dust.
