Abstract

We describe a project proposed by a large consortium of UK and Australian surveyors with the aim of obtaining accurate B and R photometric calibrations for all 270 UK Schmidt fields in the South Galactic Cap. This will have major benefits for all aspects of survey astronomy, including studies of the large-scale structure of the universe, galaxy evolution, quasar surveys, galactic structure, rare-object searches, and optical identifications of objects in surveys at other wavebands, such as the ROSAT, MIT/Parkes, and IRAS surveys.
