Transferase Catalyzed Synthesis: Applications in Series of Aminoacids and Monosaccharides

  • Chapter

Part of the book series: NATO ASI Series ((ASIC,volume 381))

Abstract

Transferases have been used for the synthesis of chiral compounds in the series of aminoacids and monosaccharides. Aminotransferases from porcine heart and bacteria have allowed the synthesis of substituted L-glutamic acids as well as hydrophobic and hydroxylated aminoacids from 2-ketoacids. Transketolase led to analogs of ketoses by transfer of an hydroxyacetyl group on an aldehyde. Various analogs of L-erythrulose and D-xylulose have been obtained. Transketolase also led to aldoses, such as D-threose and L-glucose by transfer of a formyl group on an aldehyde.
