A. J. Leggeu, “Progress ofTheoretical Physics,” Suppt. 69 (1980) 80.
R. F. Voss and R. A. Webb, Phys.Rev.Lett.47 (1981) 265, and S. Washbum, R. A. Webb, R. F. Voss, and S. M. Faris, Phys. Rev. Lett. 54 (1985) 2712 confirmed the macroscopic tunnel effect by observing the time behavior of the phase difference across a Josephson junction. This phase difference is a macroscopic quantity.
A. J. Leggett and A. Garg, Phys. Rev. Lelt. 54 (1985) 857.
The properties of this radiation were studied by J. Javanainen, Phys. Rev. A33 (1986) 2121, and by A. Schenzle, R. G. DeVoe, and R. G. Brewer, Phys. Rev. A33 (1986) 2127. These authors did not make use of the fact that the wave function of the combined system (atom plus radiation field) is a mixture with respect to field observables alone. Rather, they verified this fact by direct computation.
