Macrofungal communities outside forests

  • Chapter
Book cover Fungi in vegetation science

Part of the book series: Handbook of vegetation science ((HAVS,volume 19))

Summary

Data are summarized on macrofungocoenoses in plant communities dominated by herbs or dwarf shrubs, in particular grasslands, heathlands, bogs, alpine communities and ephemeral weed communities. Some special methodological problems in these habitats are discussed. The functions of macrofungi as saprophytes, parasites and mutualistic symbionts on different substrates are reviewed. Attention is paid to fungi associated with bryophytes. Data are provided on the species diversity and abundance and productivity of sporocarps in different plant communities. The relations between macrofungocoenoses and environmental conditions (soil, climate, and human influence) are discussed. Finally, short characteristics are given of the macrofungocoenoses in various plant communities with references to the most relevant literature.
