Difference equations and the Z-transform

  • Jean M. Firth

The context in which difference equations might appear as discrete versions of differential equations has already been instanced in Section 3.10, where we considered the digital description of the transfer function of a linear input—output system. Difference equations, however, might arise directly — for example, in the description of ladder networks or the distribution of bending moment along a load-bearing beam supported at a number of separated points.
