Summary
All parts of at least some plants have been directly exploited for food, for nutrients or flavourings: roots (root-tubers, tap-roots), stems (tubers, sugar cane), leaves, flowers (nectar and pollen in honey), seeds and fruits. They have also been cultivated for food for domesticated animals. They have been exploited as a source of dyes, fibres, medicines and poisons. They have provided materials for crafts and construction.
