Abstract
Just to the west of the oil refineries, dockyards, steel works and mines of the Swansea region lies a small peninsula, Gower, which, crisscrossed by narrow roads and lanes, hosts some of the most beautiful coastal scenery in Britain. Gower is notable for its bays. The coast road from Swansea to the little resort suburb of Mumbles, once paralleled by a fine tramway, follows one of the largest of the bays. In fine weather the blue bay is dotted with sailing dinghies, and it exudes a Mediterranean air.
