Abstract

Pathological examination of the liver is essential for the understanding and classification of liver disease. Furthermore, liver biopsy is now an essential step in the management of patients with a wide range of different diseases affecting or apparently affecting the liver. It is thus vital, following a procedure which carries a small but definite risk to the patient, that the pathologist extracts the maximum possible information from the specimen that is available.
