High Temperature Gas Cleaning for PFBC Using a Moving Granular Bed Filter

Abstract

The use of a moving granular bed filter has great potential for high temperature gas cleaning. The major advantages are the low cost of the filter material and the possibility to operate the filter at a constant pressure drop without the need for periodic shut-down and cleaning.

At Delft University of Technology a combination of a primary cylone and a granular bed filter has been tested in the exhaust of a pilot scale (1.6 MWth) Pressurised Fluidised Bed Combustor (PFBC). After some tests with a fixed bed filter, a continuously moving granular bed filter was tested.

The various aspects related to the continuous operation of the filter at PFBC conditions and the filtration performance are presented in this paper. This includes a description of the method for high temperature, high pressure dust concentration measurement and the results of filter efficiency measurements. In addition, the granular material recirculation and regeneration system is discussed.
