High Temperature Dust Collection Using a Unique Metallic Fiber Filter Medium in Baghouses

Abstract

A metallic bag filter for dust collector baghouse use allows operation at temperatures well beyond the range of traditional fabric bags. The medium was originally developed for high pressure and temperature gas filtration in chemical processes and has a good history there.

For baghouse use the element has been optimized for low pressure high volume service. It will fit easily into most standard collector designs. Details of the design will be presented along with application parameters.

In addition to high temperature capabilities emission levels are much lower than for fabric bags. This is ideal for hazardous dusts and heavy metals. As the medium does not wear the emissions do not increase with age. Emissions testing with various materials will be reported.

Operating data from installations as well as field and laboratory tests will be presented for various materials and process industries. This will include the parameters of pressure drop, flow, temperature, efficiency, solids loading and consistency of performance.

Filtration at high temperatures offers many opportunities for energy and operating cost savings. In some cases the overall process economics can change. Case histories will be discussed in detail.
