Abstract
Geotechnical problems are more and more simulated with numerical programs. Besides the point of failure these programs give us additional information about the deformations in the soil structure.
To be able to verify the calculated deformations with tests results it is necessary to measure the deformations. Rather complicated geotechnical problems can be simulated in a centrifuge at relative low cost. By using image processing and advanced data processing it is possible to analyse the deformations of the test in detail. The measured deformations of these tests makes it possible to verify the mechanism of failure which are predicted by numerical calculations.
This paper describes the results of two centrifuge tests performed on sand. These results have been compared with numerical calculations with the program PLAXIS.
