Abstract

A number of very time-consuming (e,2e) electron-electron coincidence experiments have been made possible by recent technical advances in multiparameter data acquisition and in electron beam and target production and polarisation. What are the most promising (future) applications of these efforts? A short survey of present experiments leads into several areas where the author believes extra effort is warranted, namely: (1) absolute triple differential cross section measurements on helium between 40 and 200 eV impact energy; (2) electron momentum spectroscopy of molecules oriented using hexapole electrostatic fields; (3) (e,3e) measurements on molecules, using ion-ion coincidence measurements to determine the molecular axis orientation; (4) Auger photo-electron coincidence spectroscopy of surfaces.
