Abstract
One of the most important ecological functions of soil organic matter of urban green areas is to buffer contaminants. Soil organic matter of urban lawns is influenced by many factors such as former land use or accumulation of various deposits. Furthermore, management practices play a great role in determining the quantity and quality of organic matter. Thus, possible effects of management on soil biological activity and humification could be the improvement of quantity and quality of soil organic matter and thereby the improvement of buffering capacity.
