Abstract
Investigations of the light emission from the tunnel junctions between different noble metals in air and in liquid ambient are reviewed. A new mechanism of light emission by the tunneling electrons similar to the Tcherenkov effect is suggested. Experiments with copper phthalocyanine molecules in the Au-Au tunnel junction are discussed.
