Emission and Absorption of Light by Electrons or Atoms in Optical Near Fields

  • Chapter
Near Field Optics

Part of the book series: NATO ASI Series ((NSSE,volume 242))

Abstract

Although usually discussed in the field of Scanning Tunneling Optical Microscopy, Near Field Optics corresponds to fundamental processes which are not limited to microscopy and which can open the way to a number of different applications. I consider here interactions between electrons and optical near fields. Some results on the interaction between atoms and the optical near field are also presented.
