Abstract
We summarize here the initial results of a programme of observations of the Chamaeleon III dark cloud complex. Chamaeleon III is located deep in the southern sky, and is a neary (250 pc; Gregorio-Hetem et al., 1988; 1989) young star formation region containing a number of pre-main sequence objects and the Herbig-Haro (HH) nebulae HH 52–54. The millimetre wavelength spectral line observations were performed using the 15 m Swedish-ESO Submillimetre Telescope (SEST) at the European Southern Observatory (ESO) on La Silla, Chile. A detailed account of this work has been submitted to the journal Astronomy and Astrophysics.
