Abstract

We present results of differential absorption and four wave mixing experiments in GaAs quantum wells in a magnetic field. Quantum beats between the exciton Zeeman levels and a rotation of the photon echo polarization are observed and analyzed. We show that exciton spin orientation is maintained for several tens of picoseconds. Fast oscillations of the differential absorption and the four wave mixing signal are observed and attributed to bi-excitonic nonlinearity.
