Abstract

A unified many—body approach is shown to allow for studying the nature of two condensed phases in high magnetic fields: a 2D Wigner solid (WS) of the guiding centers of Coulomb interacting electrons and an incompressible quantum liquid (IQL) of Bose condensed charge—vortex composites. A competition between the two phases is found to give rise to a re—entrance behavior, if the mean number of magnetic flux quanta per electron exceeds a certain critical value.
