Abstract

Ultrasound examination can be used routinely in the diagnostics of diseases of the lacrimal sac, to indicate operation and to control the condition after the operation, in most cases without other expensive and more complex diagnostic methods. A new examination method has been devised, in which a rubber tube filled with fluid is placed between the transducer and the skin surface. This technique can be carried out as easily as the direct contact method, and the quality of the echograms is as good as in the water bath method. Special advantages are that the examinations are very easy, especially in cases of children, and infection of the patient with the ultrasound probe can be avoided.
