Abstract

Entrainment rates are presented for a row of isothermal subsonic air jets issuing into a quiescent atmosphere. Results are presented for jet spacing to diameter ratios ranging from 2.5 to 20, and for jet Reynolds numbers ranging from 5110 to 12070. The entrainment rates vary monotonically with spacing ratio, falling between the limiting cases of the single circular jet and the slot jet. The entrainment rate variation with distance from the jet sources corresponds to an initial linear growth representative of individual jets merging downstream into a quasi-two-dimensional behavior.
