Abstract

The primary role of platelets in the precipitation of unstable angina, myocardial infarction, and sudden death is generally accepted (1). Platelet thrombi are also thought to be significant in transient ischemic attacks and some strokes (2). To protect patients from these thrombotic events, aspirin (3-5) has been primarily utilized in clinical trials. The use of aspirin has been the only successful agent and has been recommended for patients with unstable angina and myocardial infarction (1).
