Abstract
We present a class of exact solutions of the constraint equations of General Relativity coupled to a massive Klein - Gordon field, and discuss which of the consistent Cauchy data so obtained eventually lead to Inflation. We argue that only the inflationary Cauchy data are likely to occur as the outcome of a semiclassical cosmological era.
