Detection of antinuclear antibodies by immunofluorescence

Abstract

The indirect immunofluorescence assay (IFA) is the most commonly used technique for the detection of antinuclear antibodies (ANA)[1]. It is a sensitive, reproducible and simple assay that can be performed in almost every laboratory. Because IFA enables the detection of a wide range of autoantibodies, it is generally used as a primary screening test for ANA [2].
