Education for Health Information: New Approaches

Abstract

Changes in the structure of the United Kingdom National Health Service (NHS) have increased the emphasis on the supply of relevant information, especially to support the assessment of the health needs of a population. It is increasingly realised that many information requirements can be met only by the supply of both text and statistical information through co-ordinated information services. The information professionals staffing these services need skills in text databases as well as in management information systems based on relational databases. They must also be able to comment evaluatively on the quality of information offered and have good presentational abilities.
