Abstract

Slovenia is positioned on the sunny side of the Alps (Figure 1) where a large number of heavy floods have happened in the last few years due to typical frontal orographic precipitation. Here the upstream catchments of the Sava and the Socha rivers are mountainous alpine and hilly areas with deep narrow valleys and these are threatened at times of heavy rain by flash floods.
