Abstract
In this chapter, the relationships between the distribution of evergreen arboreal arctic-alpine and alpine plants and their environments are discussed. The number of evergreen arboreal arctic-alpine and alpine plants selected for examination has been reduced to 41, so as to yield a better understanding of the survival mechanisms of these species in Korea’s alpine environment. Results from this research will be helpful in the scrutiny of the patterns, processes and mechanisms for the survival of cryophilous plants in alpine areas generally, and it will also be useful to compare the ecological amplitudes of arctic-alpine and alpine species here with those from other parts of the world. In order to achieve this, the species associates, physiognomy, distributional patterns and ranges of the 41 relevant species, and their relationships with the environment, are detailed.
