Abstract
L-[methyl-11C]Methionine ([11C]methionine) has been successfully used to image brain and lung tumors. In this study, the uptake of [11C]methionine in lymphoma, breast cancer and head and neck cancer was studied by positron emission tomography (PET). [11C]Methionine accumulated avidly in 57/61 (93%) tumors. The accumulation of [11C]methionine appears to associate with the proliferative rate of breast cancer. Four different analysis methods of the uptake of [11C]methionine in cancer were studied. The kinetic analysis of the uptake of [11C]methionine in cancer can be substituted with 5 minutes emission scanning 25–40 minutes after the injection, when the radioactivity concentration in the tumor is adjusted for the injected dose and body surface area.
