  • Chapter
Book cover Fish Swimming

Abstract

A median septum divides fish behind the head into two lateral halves. It consists of a sheet of collagenous connective tissue reinforced by the axial skeleton. At the distal end the skeletal part of the septum is modified to accommodate the attachment of the tail fin. The axial skeleton includes the vertebral column and the skull.
