Abstract
The concept of an ideal network is that of a communication service which allows interconnections to be made for the transfer of data between any number of sources and destinations, both instantaneously and transparently to the users. As we would expect, the ideal is what we are continually striving for, but in practice our systems are always less than ideal, and made more so by the global extent of communication, which for effectiveness relies on developing and implementing international agreements and standards.
