Abstract
This chapter will deal with the exploitation of microbes in agriculture. In order to keep to a sensible length, the text will concentrate on inoculants which are intended for sale to the farmer in order to deliver an effect. The effect could be pest or disease control, growth promotion, protection of harvested crops or weed control. The chapter will not attempt to cover control of pests, diseases or weeds by classical biological control, i.e. the single release of a predator in order to provide longterm control.
