Nucleolar proteins during mitosis

  • Chapter
Chromosomes Today

Abstract

Nucleoli are the sites of ribosomal gene (rDNA) transcription, and also the assembly and processing of eukaryotic ribosomal subunits Hadjiolov (1985). Specific proteins associated with rDNA transcription machinery and pre-ribosomal subunits are sorted and assembled in these nuclear territories. In addition proteins that are thought to provide structural support for the spatial arrangement of the rDNA and to play a role in the ordered translocation of pre-ribosomal subunits from their primary sites of assembly to their sites of translocation.
