Abstract

The map is central to the majority of spatial information systems as it forms the basis on which most geo-databases are built. It is, however, possible to carry out many spatial analysis operations which result in text output only. For example a GIS may be used to identify households that will be affected by remedial work to a gas supply main and who will experience an interrupted supply for a period. These affected households may be advised of the proposed work through letters generated automatically based on the address data linked to each household location.
