To basidiomycotina, with some 16 000 species, belong most of the large and conspicuous fungi found in fields and woods such as toadstools, bracket polypores and puff-balls. However, the division also contains many microfungi, especially two large and economically important orders of obligate biotrophic plant parasites: rusts and smuts.
