Abstract

The larvae of the Phoridae are very diverse. A preliminary review of this diversity is provided by Ferrar (1987). Schmitz (l938n) discussed larval morphology.

The more closely a species is studied, the more likely it is that some evidence will be found for ecological polymorphism or gradual ecological variation. The variation is still largely ignored by ecologists, most of whom discuss the ecological requirements of species in a strictly typological manner (Mayr, 1970)
