Abstract
Many companies today believe they are using benchmarking as an integral part of their improvement strategy. In reality, however, this is frequently not the case. The way benchmarking is being used in those companies is not driving for superiority, for stretched goals and reaching levels of excellence. They are only using it for incremental improvements, for cosmetic changes, for nudging and pushing the processes and practices in the right direction.
