Abstract
Any study of surface coatings ultimately returns to a discussion on film formation. A film may be defined as a thin (25–500 µm) layer of coherent solid matter adhered to a substrate. In most cases the film is derived from a liquid. Application viscosity is an important factor in producing a good film, since the polymer needs to flow and cover the substrate. The viscosity depends on the substrate to be coated and application method employed, but is generally in the range of 0.05–1.0 Pa.s.
