Abstract
Nobody argues against the importance of measurement. However, measurement is a disputed and misused term. Some authors like Sink and Tuttle (1989) claim that you cannot manage what you cannot measure. Others may disagree with this philosophy due to the danger of choosing the wrong metrics. Development of an effective measurement system is a crucial task for every company exposed to tough competition. A company must know were and how to improve in order to have enough resources to secure long-term survival.
